HEALDSBURG, CA — Healdsburg will begin paving March Avenue on Aug. 24, bringing a $3.35 million reconstruction project into its final stages and triggering intermittent weekday closures through Sept. 2.
Crews will pave March Avenue between Healdsburg Avenue and University Avenue from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, according to the city. Workers will close one direction of the street at a time, and traffic will detour along Powell Avenue.
The city will reopen the road after 5 p.m. each workday. March Avenue will also remain open throughout the weekend of Aug. 29-30, when no paving work is scheduled.
Business and residential access within the construction area will remain available, but the city warned drivers and residents to expect delays and temporary driveway closures.
The paving schedule calls for eastbound March Avenue to close Aug. 24 and Aug. 25. Westbound lanes will close Aug. 26 and Aug. 27, followed by another eastbound closure Aug. 28.
After the weekend break, westbound March Avenue will close Aug. 31, eastbound lanes will close Sept. 1, and westbound lanes will close Sept. 2.
The city began reconstructing March Avenue in the spring, with improvements designed for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The project includes traffic lanes, bike lanes, pedestrian safety improvements, and a new roadway surface.
State and county grants cover most of the project's $3.35 million cost. The city received $2.093 million from a state grant and $700,000 from a county grant, while local funds account for $558,438.
Once crews finish paving, workers will install new roadway signs and striping.
The city urged motorists to watch for construction workers, follow posted signs and parking restrictions, and use Powell Avenue to avoid the work zone.
