SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Manual wheelchair users can travel across the 2-mile stretch of beach on Bodega Bay without leaving their chairs through an equipment program at Doran Regional Park.
The park is using a motorized track system that fits onto the wheelchair, called Freedom Trax.
The company described the device as gear that converts a wheelchair into an off-road vehicle able to traverse sand, snow, gravel and mud.
Visitors can reserve Freedom Trax equipment Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Nov. 15.
Park officials said reservations are strongly recommended, but the park accepts drop-ins when equipment is available.
Doran Regional Park also offers free beach wheelchairs and rollator walkers.
Visitors generally receive that equipment on a first-come, first-served basis, although they may arrange some uses in advance, according to the park officails.
