SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A professional skateboarder known for combining a backflip with a kickflip will headline a back-to-school fundraiser supporting safe and healthy students.
Beaver Fleming will appear at the Epic Back to School Event Saturday at the Windsor High School.
The event includes skateboarders, scooters, and bikes.
Fleming performs professionally with Nitro Circus. Travis Pastrana discovered him while Fleming trained at Woodward West, and Fleming joined the Nitro Circus live tour as a teenager.
The Tennessee native began skateboarding around age 9 or 10 after Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 inspired him. He has spent more than a decade performing large-scale stunts around the world, according to his website.
Fleming built his reputation on mega ramp moves like the double backflip and his signature "Fleming Flip," which combines a backflip with a kickflip. He has won the Simple Session "Best Trick" award three times and placed second at the 2017 Nitro World Games.
The Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff's Association is sponsoring the event. All proceeds will support Windsor High School's Every 15 Minutes program, which teaches juniors and seniors about the potentially deadly consequences of impaired driving.
The event, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, will be held at the Windsor High School, 8695 Windsor Road.
