SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Shone Farm will send its U-pick season out on a sweet note Friday, with ripe strawberries, flowers, and other fresh finds waiting in the fields.
Shone Farm will open the Forestville fields Friday for the public to pick strawberries and flowers. The strawberries come from new plants that the farm replaces about every two years.
"They're delicious," farm director Brianna Nethery said.
The farm stand sells cut flowers, vegetables, fruit, beef boxes, beef cuts, olive oil, berry preserves, polenta, flour, dried beans, and other value-added goods.
The farm produces its olive oil from trees planted along the fence line and elsewhere on the property.
Blackberries have finished producing for the season, although a separate planting may hold a small, sweet amount.
Visitors can also meet Santa Rosa Junior College students and watch them work.
Visitors should bring their own baskets or containers. The farm does not permit canines except assistance dogs.
Organizers recommend wearing sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable shoes and bringing a water bottle.
The event offers free admission and parking, requires no reservation, and accepts cards and tap-to-pay purchases.
Shone Farm will follow the final seasonal U-pick session with a fall festival Oct. 10.
The festival will offer U-pick apples, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkins, along with hayrides, wine tasting, and food trucks. The event drew 2,500 visitors last year.
