Watch: Man Stranded On Rock By Icy Waters Rescued By Airlift

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A man clinging to a rock about 100 yards offshore Sunday was lifted to safety by helicopter after waves struck him near Rocky Point, south of Sea Ranch,

North Sonoma Coast Fire crews launched jet skis, while CAL FIRE confirmed that the man was soaking wet and appeared to have reached the rock after being in the ocean.

Sonoma County Sheriff's crew was lowered by helicopter on 100-foot longline to secure the man in a collar rescue device. The man was lifted over the water to a bluff.

Medics treated the man for cold water exposure and released him.

Responders had also received a report of two other people on a nearby rock. The flight officer returned to check on them. They declined a lift and remained on the rock fishing.
