SANTA ROSA, CA — A chemical spill in a stockroom at Santa Rosa Junior College prompted an evacuation of a building, canceling some in-person classes, according to college officials.
The spill was reported Tuesday morning in a stockroom at the Lindley Center on the college's Santa Rosa campus. First responders arrived to address the spill, and classes and activities initially continued as normal, according to SRJC President Angélica Garcia.
In a follow-up message to the campus community, Garcia said the building would be evacuated for about four hours starting at 12:15 p.m. as crews worked to clear the spill.
All in-person classes scheduled in Lindley before 4:30 p.m. onTuesday were canceled. Classes scheduled to begin after 4:30 p.m. were still expected to meet, the college said.
Employees working in the building were directed to contact their supervising administrators about temporary alternative workspaces.
Garcia said there was no risk to the campus community or surrounding buildings.
The messages did not specify what chemical spilled or what caused the incident.
