New school in Winchester puts its focus on the arts (pressenterprise.com) — Families in the Hemet Unified School District now have a new arts-focused option with Pleasant Valley Elementary, a $79 million TK–5 campus in Winchester serving the broader Hemet area. The school blends dance, music, visual, media and theater arts into core subjects, and is already drawing strong interest from Hemet-area families as nearby housing grows and enrollment rises districtwide.
   

2. Evacuation Warnings Lifted as Taffle Fire 75% Contained Near Hemet (mynewsla.com) — A 77-acre brush fire that broke out Friday near Sage, about six miles southeast of Hemet, reached 75% containment by Saturday. Firefighters kept the blaze away from most nearby homes, evacuation warnings were lifted, and no injuries had been reported as crews continued mop-up work.
   

3. Update: Taffle Fire in Riverside County nears full containment at 90% (fresnobee.com) — A wildfire that started Friday about five miles southeast of Hemet near Taffle Ranch Road and Louis Lane has burned 77 acres but is now 90% contained, according to Cal Fire. Crews continue working the remaining uncontrolled perimeter, and officials emphasize that high containment doesn't mean the fire is fully out or risk-free yet.
   

4. SoCal Edison says Public Safety Power Shutoffs "could happen more frequently, last longer" this year (cbsnews.com) — Southern California Edison is warning that Public Safety Power Shutoffs could be more frequent, wider-reaching, and longer this year, a concern for Hemet residents who remember the 2022 Fairview Fire tied to SCE equipment. The utility urges customers to prepare with backup power, emergency plans, and alerts as rising fire risk drives more aggressive shutoff decisions.
