Hemet Police Department releases August crime statistics (canyonlakeinsider.com) — Hemet's police department is urging residents to stay alert while sharing August crime and enforcement numbers, including 7,019 calls for service and 424 arrests. Officers also made numerous traffic stops, DUI and drug arrests, and used drones in 178 operations, with priority calls answered in under five minutes.
2. How They Voted: Hemet introduces SKR fees 4-1; fleet passes 5-0 (hsjchronicle.com) — Hemet residents just saw their City Council advance new SKR habitat mitigation fees and approve nearly $1 million for 12 new police vehicles and other public-safety gear. The meeting also greenlit a $100,000 grant for Dugout Froyo and adopted an urgency cannabis-permit ordinance, all on votes that could shape local development, policing, and business support.
3. McSweeny Farms Community Park opens in Hemet (pressenterprise.com) — Hemet residents now have a new 7-acre community park at McSweeny Farms, featuring public walking and equestrian trail connections, pickleball and basketball courts, and picnic areas. Most amenities are open to everyone, expanding local options for recreation, gatherings, and outdoor time close to home.
4. These are the 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists in the Inland Empire (sbsun.com) — Hemet's Western Center Academy is among the Inland Empire schools celebrating students named 2027 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, a distinction earned by fewer than 1% of U.S. seniors. These high-achieving juniors advanced through PSAT scores and now compete for a share of about $24 million in scholarships to be awarded next spring.
