• Hemet council appoints Ernie Reyna city manager (hsjchronicle.com) — Hemet residents have a new city manager: Ernest "Ernie" Reyna, whose contract the City Council unanimously approved and who is expected to start Nov. 2, 2026. Councilmembers backed a multi‑year agreement with annual raises and adjourned their meeting to Oct. 13, though the full contract text was not yet posted online.
• Hemet man dies on McCall Park Road in Mountain Center (hsjchronicle.com) — A 21-year-old Hemet resident, Reese Whitney, has been identified as the person who died Friday morning along McCall Park Road in Mountain Center, according to the county coroner. Authorities say the California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash, which occurred in the mountains above the San Jacinto Valley.
• Two alleged White supremacists indicted, third man pleads guilty in Oceanside Pier hate-crime rampage (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Federal prosecutors say two alleged White supremacists tied to a Hemet-based street gang have been indicted, while a third man pleaded guilty, in a series of racially motivated attacks near the Oceanside Pier that injured three people, including two Marines. The case highlights federal scrutiny of extremist activity with reported roots in Hemet and elsewhere in Southern California.
