African Penguins Being Killed

African Penguins Being Killed African penguins, also known as jack grass penguins, are being killed because of oil polluting their homes. By: Sabrina Dimesa When there are oil spills people lose money but humans are not the only ones at loss. Oceans are polluted when oil leaks into the ocean, which kills fish. Fish are a source of food to more animals than just African penguins. Oil spills also affect penguins in different ways; for example oil gets stuck in penguin’s feathers, then their feathers no longer keep them warm, so penguins die of hypothermia. When African Penguins try to clean themselves with oil all over their feathers, they swallow the oil and can become incredibly sick, then die. When an African Penguin becomes covered in oil they are referred to as oiled penguins. An oiled penguins can only survive for a few days, so if you happen to see an oiled penguin please call SANCCOB to help. African penguins should not die because of humans being inconsiderate. When tankers spill and oil pumps leak thousands of gallons of oil humans don’t just lose money. Oceans are polluted and fish die. Fish are a main source of food to many animals including humans. When the homes of animals are polluted the animals are polluted too.
