1. Hermosa Beach Makes It Slightly Easier to Build Condos, Following State Housing Rules (hermosareview.com) — Hermosa Beach is moving to streamline condo approvals by dropping the Conditional Use Permit step and trimming vague design language, a shift pushed by state housing laws. Smaller four-unit-and-under condo maps could soon be approved administratively, while larger projects still face public hearings, and the City Council is expected to consider the changes in October for likely 2027 implementation.
2. Hermosa Beach Planning Commission approves electric gateway sign, council to vote next (dailybreeze.com) — Hermosa Beach is moving closer to installing a new electronic "Welcome to Hermosa Beach" gateway sign at Pier Avenue and PCH, in front of the Community Center. After Planning Commission approval, the City Council will decide in September whether to proceed, using major private donations plus city funds, with installation expected around spring 2027 if approved.
3. Cole Crotty Enjoying Historic Career With Johns Hopkins Football (pressboxonline.com subscription) — A standout wide receiver who grew up in Hermosa Beach is putting together a record-setting career at Johns Hopkins, with more than 3,000 receiving yards heading into his senior season. He's now eyeing a national title and possibly an NFL shot, while also staying active in faith-based service work and community outreach off the field.
4. Items Tagged with 'World Food Prize Foundation' (agri-pulse.com) — Hermosa Beach residents may want to know that city council member Ray Jackson has been appointed to the South Coast seat on the powerful California Coastal Commission, which helps shape coastal development and environmental policy. The rest of the piece is a roundup of agriculture and food-policy leadership moves, mostly outside the South Bay.
