MOORPARK, CA — The City Council is accepting applications from prospective appointees to the three advisory commissions.
Applications for the Arts, Parks and Recreation, and Planning commissions are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, according to the city.
The city is seeking applicants to fill five positions with two-year terms beginning in January 2027 and ending in December 2028.
Applications are available at moorparkca.gov/serve.
The Arts Commission reviews proposed artwork designs and locations, seeks public comment and makes recommendations to the City Council.
Applicants must be registered voters and either live within the city's "Area of Interest" or Moorpark Unified School District boundaries, or own a business in Moorpark, officials said.
The Arts Commission meets at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of February, May, August and November.
The Parks and Recreation Commission advises the council on managing facilities and decisions about programs and services. When directed by the council, it also reviews proposed park designs and improvements.
Applicants for the Parks and Recreation Commission must live in Moorpark and be registered to vote in the city.
Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month, with additional meetings as needed.
The Planning Commission advises the council on land use and considers building plans, rezoning requests, use permits and subdividing land parcels.
Applicants must live in Moorpark and be registered to vote in the city.
"Where possible, applicants should have knowledge of real estate, construction, law, zoning, architecture or related fields," according to the city.
The commission meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Applicants for the commissions must make a brief presentation about their qualifications and interest at a City Council meeting. Officials said presentations are tentatively scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, in the council chambers at 323 Science Drive.
Presentations must be made in person unless extenuating circumstances call for remote participation, which applicants must request in writing. Applicants who do not make a presentation will be disqualified, officials said.
Appointees must complete two hours of state-mandated ethics training, workplace harassment prevention training and courses in fiscal and financial management. They must also file a Statement of Economic Interests, known as Form 700.
The city's website has additional information on commissions. For help with applications, call or e-mail Ky Spangler, 805-517-6223 or kspangler@moorparkca.gov.
