Blue Zones Project "Walk Together Week" Unites More than 1,700 Beach Cities Residents
The Blue Zones Project and Beach Cities Health District celebrated Walk Together Week, April 22-27, which brought more than 1,700 community members together throughout the Beach Cities. During the week-long program participants found simple ways to add more steps to their day with friends such as hosting walking meetings with coworkers, challenging friends and family to a walking competition or by simply parking farther away from their destination.
Throughout Walk Together Week, Beach Cities residents competed to create the Largest Walking Group, the Most Creative Walking Group, the Most Active Walking Group and a walking group with the Most Blue Zones Project Spirit. The following groups received prizes at the Earth Day celebration in Polliwog Park on April 27:

- Largest Walking Group – Beryl Elementary had the largest walking group with a total of 550 participants
- Most Creative Walking Group – Northrop Grumman who hosted multiple events and took photos with their “Walk NG Together” signs every time and even held a stair competition
- Most Active Walking Group – Tulita Elementary which held a Run Club, walking meetings and hosted the Walking School Bus program
- Blue Zones Project Spirit – Beach City Walkers showed their Blue Zones spirit throughout Walk Together Week by visiting designated destinations throughout the Beach Cities
