California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Announces Grant from Southern California Edison to Support Latino Businesses

The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce announced today that Southern California Edison is awarding a $75,000 grant to the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce mission to promote, support and encourage the advancement and development of Hispanic and minority-owned businesses.

“We appreciate the support and commitment that Southern California Edison has provided to Latino businesses for so many years,” said Mark Martinez, President and CEO of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce. “The utility’s support will help local chambers provide their members with the tools they need to develop and grow their business.”

Part of the grant will be used by the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce to provide workshops to Hispanic Chambers of Commerce from the Central Valley, Inland Empire and Southern California regions served by Southern California Edison. Each chamber will choose a workshop topic based on the needs of their small business members.

For the past 30 years, Southern California Edison has supported supplier diversity among businesses in California. In the last three years, Edison has spent over $1 billion to support Hispanic-owned businesses.

“We are pleased to support these important programs throughout our service area,” said Joe Alderete, Principal Manager of Supplier Diversity, at Southern California Edison. “The Hispanic chambers do important work in providing information and training to businesses in our communities.”

In 2012, the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce awarded Southern California Edison the Corporation of the Year award for its’ ongoing support and dedication to the development and growth of Hispanic-owned businesses across the state.
