Beware of Chicken Little's in Hermosa!

Recently I watched a Hermosa council meeting where residents were complaining about a lack of transparency by our city regarding the oil project. This got me thinking, so I investigated. I checked out the city’s website at www.hermosabch.org and found an enormous amount of information available. What are they squawking about? Is this just political show-and-tell? For those of you looking for the real information, on the city website there are a bevy of details on the settlement agreement, press releases announcing new materials and website updates, project application updates, updates on communications between the oil company and the city, updates regarding each of these topics: (from the website) Background Material, Environmental Impact Review Process, Current Activities, Community Letter, Additional Resources, Community Dialog and much more. I’ve been involved in some local politics here and there, but this oil project has the crazies coming OUT of the woodwork. Can we all agree that we want better streets, schools, sewers, storm water drains, and city services? I want to accomplish these things and am eager to work towards a solution. However, in order to do it, we must have a financially sound plan. As information seekers, we can agree that Hermosa should consider any project that can be done safely and protect the environment must be considered, and right now, this oil drilling project looks solid. Let’s band together as educated people and not let the few distort the facts about any potential project that may financially benefit our beautiful city. Carey McCormick - Hermosa Beach
