For our journalism assignment, Sydney and I interviewed Ms. Spurrell, a science teacher at Hermosa Valley School. Starting off with our first question:

Sydney: “Do you enjoy being a science teacher?”

Ms. Spurrell: “Of course! I’ve been teaching science for a long time, and I really enjoy it.”

Rachel: “Did you ever have any other interest in teaching another subject?”

Ms. Spurrell:  “Yes I have. I used to teach math, but that career ended after about two years. I then started to teach science.”

Sydney:  “How many years have you taught?”

Ms. Spurrell:  “I have been teaching for 21 years.”

Rachel:  “This question is optional. Do you like teaching 6th grade or 7th grade better?”

Ms. Spurrell:  “I love teaching 6th grade and 7th grade equally, but I’ve been teaching 7th grade longer because originally I got my college degree in biology.”

Sydney:  “Have you ever taught anywhere else than HVS?”

Ms. Spurrell:  “Yes I have. In 1997, I taught in Yorba Linda.”

Rachel:  “What’s one thing you could change about your job?”

Ms. Spurrell:  “Well, I would love to have an assistant to help grade papers, but taking more science field trips (such as OSS and Catalina) would be nice.”

Sydney:  “Were any of your daughters ever science teachers?”

Ms. Spurrell:  “No they were not, but they are scientists.”
