Still Not Prepared For Disaster?

Dan Lantzer, Hermosa Beach Fire Chief, explains the great importance and advantage of having Hermosa residents become well prepared for potential disaster situations.

In this interview from October 2012, Dan Lantzer, Hermosa Beach Fire Chief, explains the importance and advantage of having Hermosa residents become even better prepared for potential disaster situations.

It appears that many Hermosans are still unprepared for the very present danger that natural occurances present to our city, an earthquake being the best example. However, there is also the continual threat of accidental fire, medical emergency, or any kind of unusual explosive distrubance.

Fire Chief Dan Lantzer suggests that the city's response to a major disaster will be limited by its limited resources. Current emergency relief services can not possibly attend every need in a city-wide disaster.

The "Key," he says, is for Hermosans to plan to help each other in any possible future emergency circumstance by becoming informed, equipped, and prepared today.

I conducted the interview as a member of Hermosa Beach Leadership Class of 2013.
