“Preparing our coastal communities for the impacts of sea level rise is critical in order to protect our coastal infrastructure, businesses, and homes. The research that will be made possible by USC’s Sea Grant Program is an important step to help us do that,” said Muratsuchi, a member of the California Coastal Conservancy.
The grant funding will be used to look at beach profiles during winter storm events to provide surveys of beach profile changes and high-water mark data along the Santa Monica Bay. The USC Sea Grant Program is conducting research to collect this data which could be used for modeling and preparing for sea level rise and coastal flooding along our beach cities.
