Community Reminder - Safe in the South Bay Pledge: Each week, Hermosa’s Chamber of Commerce is providing an updated list of the businesses in Hermosa Beach that have taken the “Safe in the South Bay Pledge” to follow proper protocols and slow the spread of COVID-19 for their employees and customers. HBPD Launches Tool to Help Community Report Non-Emergency Incidents: The Hermosa Beach Police Department (HBPD) is offering a new online tool to submit police reports for certain non-emergency incidents. Filing an online report is not appropriate for all incidents, but can be used to report vandalism, property theft (under $950 in value), identity theft, lost property, custody order violations, or harassing phone calls that occur within the City of Hermosa Beach. Alert South Bay COVID-19 Community Survey Results: The Alert South Bay COVID-19 Community Survey conducted in partnership with Beach Cities Health District received responses from 7,064 individuals. Those surveyed said their top three COVID-19 concerns at this time are community members not following the health guidance (57.65%), general uncertainty of the future (49.64%) and social isolation/lack of places to go (48.64%). Hermosa Beach City Manager Provides COVID-19 Update: During this week’s Virtual City Council Meeting, Hermosa Beach City Manager Suja Lowenthal provided a COVID-19 Update and details about the Health Enforcement Officers the City has hired to enforce face covering requirements in Downtown, all City Parks and on Pier Plaza, the Strand and the beach when out of the water. Community Reminder - $100 Million L.A. County COVID-19 Rent Relief Program to Launch Monday: In an effort to assist renters with limited means affected by the COVID-19 crisis, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has provided $100 million in CARES Act funds to create a COVID-19 Rent Relief program to assist between 8,000 to over 9,000 households. The program is operated by the Los Angeles County Development Authority and is set to launch on Monday, August 17, for a two-week period, closing on August 31. A list of Frequently Asked Questions with more program detail is available at rentrelief.lacda.org.
Los Angeles County Update: The L.A. County Department of Public Health today reported 64 new deaths and 1,999 new cases of COVID-19. To date, Public Health has identified 216,139 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County, and a total of 5,171 deaths. The County reported 8 additional COVID-19 cases and one additional death in Hermosa Beach since the City’s last update this past Monday, bringing the City’s total to 172 COVID-19 diagnoses and 3 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Global Coronavirus Figures: There are more than 20 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide since the start of the pandemic, and more than 752,000 COVID-19 related deaths have occurred across the globe as of August 13, according to Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

Please continue to follow public health experts’ recommendations to avoid spreading the coronavirus including frequent handwashing, wearing a face covering, keeping a safe distance from one another, and staying home if you are ill. Public Health has issued the following guidance during this time of increased spread: If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days or until 72 hours after being fever free, whichever is longer. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen.
