By: Jacquelyn Sparrow Gabby Douglas, 2012 Olympic gymnast, is my idol. Her nickname is “Flying Squirrel” because of her amazing skills on the bars. Gabrielle was born on December 31st, 1995 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She began training in gymnastics at age six. When she was eight, Douglas won the Level 4 all-around gymnastics title at the 2004 Virginia State Championships. In October, at age fourteen, Gabby moved from Virginia Beach to West Des Moines, Iowa to train under Liang Chow. In the summer of 2012, Douglas competed in the London Olympics. She won a gold medal on the uneven bars, silver in all-around, and bronze on floor. Gabby Douglas is a great role model. She is very passionate about gymnastics. One day, I hope to be as talented as her!
