Hahn Picks Up LGBT Group's Endorsement

Long Beach Lambda—the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Democratic Club—officially endorsed Janice Hahn in her bid to become the 36th Congressional District representative Tuesday night.

Hahn was on hand at the organization’s general meeting to accept the endorsement in person, which took place at the First Congregational Church in downtown Long Beach.

First District Councilman Robert Garcia also attended the meeting.

“This is the woman we need in Congress who will fight for the South Bay and keep alive the progress our city has made in the fight for marriage equality,” he said. 

The only other candidate who has publicly announced interest in the 36th Congressional District seat that will be left vacant by  when she officially steps down Monday is California Secretary of State Debra Bowen.

The 36th Congressional District includes Hermosa Beach.

Long Beach Lambda said it also invited Bowen to Tuesday night’s meeting to seek the group’s endorsement, but Bowen’s campaign office did not respond to the invitation.
