Bart Street Closed, Hermosa Beach City Council Votes To Close Off Bard Street
The City Council cited safety concerns with public safety equipment exposed to the open roadway.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — Hermosa Beach City Council voted unanimously to close off Bard Street, mentioning safety concerns. The City will place gates at the intersections of Bard and Pier Avenue, and at Bard and 11th Place, blocking entrance by the public.
The non-profit Friends of the Library, which was based on Bard, will be relocated to a trailer in front of a city-owned storage facility. Safety of police officers was cited as one of the largest factors in the Council's decision, according to Easy Reader News.
According to the City Council Agenda for July 25, in an effort to resolve safety, crime, and legal concerns, the Council made the following recommendations to close and secure Bard Street:

- That the Council authorize the City Manager purchase authority, not to exceed $115,000, for: installation of fences and gates around Bard Street, installation of panic and electronic access system, installation of security system (video/audio)
- Purchase and installation of a structure on the North side of the Hermosa Self-Storage for the relocation of Friends of the Library (FOL), Council should authorize
- Approve resolution closing Bard Street
Worries flared last July when five police offers were killed in Dallas, which prompted the Hermosa Beach Peace Officers Association to e-mail the City Manager requesting the closure of Broad, according to Easy Reader News.
“As nice as Hermosa Beach is, you just never know when someone is going to do something crazy like this,” said Councilmember Hany Fangary to Easy Reader News.
