Hermosa Beach Gasoline Prices Continue to Rise Heading Into Weekend; Where to Fill Up for Less

Wholesale gas prices have fallen slightly, but it's unclear how long local prices will continue to rise, AAA said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Friday to its highest amount since Jan. 14, 2016, increasing three-tenths of a cent to $2.985.

The average price has risen for 21 consecutive days, increasing 14.6 cents, including three-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 6 cents more than one week ago, 12.4 cents higher than one month ago and 48.6 cents greater than one year ago. The streak of increases is the longest since a 36-day run from Feb. 26-April 1.

The Orange County average price rose to its highest amount since Jan. 13, 2016, increasing three-tenths of a cent to $2.987. It has risen 16 of the past 17 days, increasing 14.4 cents, including four-tenths of a cent on Thursday.

The Orange County average price is 5.6 cents more than one week ago, 13.8 cents higher than one month ago and 49.2 cents greater than one year ago.

"Chevron is reportedly performing unplanned maintenance at its refineries in El Segundo and Richmond, which has increased upward pressure on prices," said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

"However, wholesale gasoline prices have fallen slightly this week after reaching a 52-week high point on Friday, so it's unclear how much higher local pump prices will rise at the moment."
