Landmark Hermosa: Patrick Molloy's

As Patrick Molloy's is set to debut a new look Friday, some of the characteristics that made the Hermosa Beach venue a landmark on Pier Plaza still will remain.

The restaurant has been a part of town since 1996, according to its website, when the late founder Bill Bastian named Patrick Molloy’s after his son Patrick Bastian.

At the time, "Pier Plaza was essentially a biker place, you could drive up and down the promenade," Patrick told Patch about downtown Hermosa’s past in an interview in January.

The building that now houses Patrick Molloy's used to house Sushi Sei, Patrick said. Then when Patrick Molloy's opened, it debuted as a sit-down steakhouse before developing into a sports pub-type venue. Patrick mentioned that the restaurant has always had an Irish theme because of his family's heritage.

"This is a family-owned business," said owner Fred Hahn.

Patrick Molloy’s underwent a remodeling about five years ago, but its renovation now is aimed to surprise.

"We never planned on venturing away from the Irish pub but rather working together to come up with a modernized look with both old and new that would complement eachother," said interior and furniture designer Morgan Nutting of MLN Designs, who was the lead designer on the redesign project.

The venue is scheduled to host a grand reopening party Friday night.
