Hermosa Beach Wins 2 Awards For Environmental Initiatives
The City was awarded some of the highest honors for its energy savings and sustainability initiatives.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – The City of Hermosa Beach was honored by the Institute for Local Government Thursday by winning two Beacon Spotlight awards: the Platinum Beacon Award for energy savings and the Gold Beacon Award for its sustainability initiatives.
The Platinum Beacon Award is the highest Beacon Spotlight Award, which was given to Hermosa Beach for the City’s efforts to reduce energy usage and install renewable energy sources – resulting in a 30% reduction in its energy usage, the press release said. Hermosa Beach was also awarded the second highest award, the Gold Beacon Award, for the City’s sustainability initiatives related to transportation, waste reduction and green buildings.
“We truly appreciate this recognition of the dedication and hard work of our City’s leaders and staff that led to such stellar results,” said Mayor Jeff Duclos, who accepted the awards on behalf of the City. “We thank the South Bay Cities Council of Governments for nominating Hermosa Beach for this honor, and we look forward to making further progress in reducing energy consumption and creating a healthier, more vibrant and sustainable community.”
