Hermosa Residents to Vote on Hotel Tax Increase

A proposal before Hermosa voters aims to raise revenue for the city by raising the hotel bed tax.

Voters will head to the polls today in dozens of Southland school districts and cities, choosing school board members, city council members and mayors, while deciding on a handful of ballot measures.

In Hermosa Beach, voters will weigh in on a proposed increase in the city’s hotel bed tax, from 10 percent to 12 percent.

The city’s tax has been 10 percent for twenty five years.

“This fee is one of the most direct ways for our City to collect revenues from visitors, which helps pay their fair share for City services,” proponents of the measure wrote. “Supporting this measure would generate an estimated additional $440,000 in annual revenue from existing hotel rooms for our General Fund.”

Opponents of the measure did not submit an argument to the City Clerk.
