I’ve discovered that many people don’t scroll down the ‘Things to Do’ page far enough to see what’s coming up in the months ahead and are getting shut out of ticketed events. The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau will be hosting theState of the City Address today, Thursday, March 26. The event will take place at the Beach House Hotel with Mayor Pete Tucker presiding. A light appetizer buffet and no-host bar will be set up at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation by Mayor Tucker beginning at 7:15. This event is free and the public is invited to attend. Shade Hotel and wineLA will host the first annual STARS of Napa Valley Wine Festivaltonight, Thursday, March 26. With 40 notable wineries set to participate in the festivities, Shade Hotel expects to welcome hundreds of wine enthusiasts in celebration of Napa Valley’s most coveted wines. Among the elite list of wineries showcasing their most popular pours are Quintessa; Alpha Omega; Trefethen; Heitz; Frank Family Vineyards; Barnett Vineyards; Bougetz Cellars; Black Stallion; Signorello Estate; Kenzo Estate; ZD Wines; Entre Nous Wines; Lail Vineyards; and Inglenook. Attendees will enjoy an elegant assortment of tray-passed hors d’oeuvres and may bid on a unique selection of auction items. Auction items will range from $250 to $2,000 with one hundred percent of the silent auction proceeds benefitting Manhattan Beach Middle School. The doors open at 7 p.m. and general admission tickets are $125 per person. The Manhattan Beach Chamber hosts the Spring Networking Event tonight, Thursday, March 26 at Pitfire Pizza. Join Hermosa Beach CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and Neighborhood Watch at the Hermosa Pier on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. to participate in aTsunami Walk. National Tsunami Preparedness Week is March 23 through March 27 and anyone who lives in the inundation zone should take advantage of this FREE event. Attendees will meet at the base of the pier and walk from the inundation zone to a safe location. Tsunami maps and other disaster preparedness information will be provided. There is no need to sign up, just show up and look for people in green vests. The next Hermosa Beach CERT training course will take place April 9 through April 12. The Torrance Art Museum (TAM) invites the public to attend the Opening Reception of Second Sight: New Representations in Photography and John Hyatt: My Brush with Angels on Saturday, March 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. The opening reception is free to the public and no RSVP is necessary. The exhibitions will be on view from Tuesday, March 31 through Thursday, May 14. KISS front man Gene Simmons will host the official Release Party for his new book entitled Gene Simmons is a Powerful and Attractive Man and Other Irrefutable Facts on Tuesday, March 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. at his Rock & Brews restaurant in El Segundo. Tickets to the event are $75 and will include a three-course prix fixe dinner, a signed book and a photo with Simmons. The book, written by Christina Vitagliano with a foreward by Simmons, pays homage to the KISS rock legend, showcasing more than 250 outlandish ‘facts’ about Simmons’ stage persona, love life and more.
