Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for November 6, 2014
The South Bay plays host to a variety of seasonal events including a chili cook off in the firehouse!

With regard to the first item on this week’s agenda: I attended the Full Moon Yoga class at Terranea in October. It was fabulous - never mind the friendly raccoon that insisted on joining us - and I highly recommend it. If yoga isn’t your thing, no worries, there are plenty of other fun things to do this weekend!
Terranea Resort is now offering monthly Full Moon Yoga classes! With the success of the first event in October, Terranea Resort’s Full Moon Yoga class is now being offered monthly with the remaining classes of 2014 taking place on Thursday, November 6 and Saturday, December 6. In celebration of November’s full Beaver Moon, Full Moon Yoga will be on Thursday, November 6 at 6 p.m. on Terranea Resort’s Ocean Lawn and is open to both guests and locals. Yogis of all levels are welcome. Participants are asked to bring $20 to contribute to Cancer Support Community and their yoga mat. G.I. Joe Bootcamp presents the Fall Pier 2 Pier Run/Walk on Saturday, November 8. The event gets underway at 7 a.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier. This is a four mile course run in the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Pre-registered participants will receive t-shirts and goodie bags while the first and second place winners, male and female, will receive a Village Runner gift certificate. Any participant that breaks the record for the fastest course time will receive $100 cash! Stick around for the Post Event Party for raffle prizes. All registrants will receive a free entry raffle ticket for a chance to win a trip! WINNER MUST BE PRESENT AT RAFFLE TIME TO WIN THE PRIZE. Pre-registration is $40; day of event, $45. There are also five different team/family registration options for up to fifteen members. The Chevron El Segundo Refinery is hosting a Community Tour Day on Saturday, November 8. The community is invited to tour the facility from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on free one-hour bus tours. Reservations are required and must include the names of everyone in your party, time preference, city of residence and phone number. The Neptunian Woman’s Club of Manhattan Beach hosts the South Bay Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, November 8 at Manhattan Beach Fire Station No. 1. This family friendly event takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. and features gourmet chili tastings, silent auction, raffle prizes and live DJ. Tickets are $25 per person (children age 8 and under free) with the proceeds benefitting the Manhattan Beach Firefighters’ Burn Foundation. The VIP After Party will take place on the Rooftop Deck of Bank of Manhattan located at 15 Street and Highland Avenue. Tickets are $75 and include general admission to the chili cook-off. Leadership Hermosa Beach invites everyone to celebrate civic involvement and accomplishment at the second annual Beach Ball on Saturday, November 8 at The Standing Room. This grand party is a chance to recognize and celebrate the many people that support the community, mingle with old friends and make new ones! Guests will enjoy appetizers and drink specials all night long. The mixer begins at 6:30 p.m. with the awards presentation at 8 p.m. The evening features live musical entertainment by The Jared Young Band. The Torrance Art Museum at the Joslyn Center (TAM) invites the public to attend the annual South Bay Focus exhibition. The Opening Reception is on Saturday, November 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. The opening reception is free to the public and no RSVP is necessary. The exhibition will be on view from Tuesday, November 11 through Saturday, December 5. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. South Bay Focus is Torrance Art Museum’s annual contemporary and traditional juried art exhibition. The 2014 South Bay Focus is presented in conjunction with the Torrance Artists Guild and the South Bay Watercolor Society. This year’s Juror is Scott Canty, Director and Curator of the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. S.A.G.E Expo (Sustainable and Green Environments) is hosting a Complimentary Breakfast on Wednesday, November 12 from 7:45 to 9 a.m. The event features acclaimed green developer Daniel Salzman, as speaker, on the topic of green designs to create beautiful, environmentally friendly homes. The session is being held in the new showroom of South Bay Green located at 160 South Sepulveda Boulevard in El Segundo.
