Letter to the Editor: Bar Closing Times a Quality of Life Issue
SB 635 would extend the closing times of bars to 4 a.m.

Dear Editor:
Tell the California Senate it is a quality of life issue—not a revenue issue.
Sen. Mark Leno from the Bay Area is pushing a bill to allow certain bars in our state to stay open until 4 a.m. I understand his argument is that by doing so, California can compete with places like Las Vegas and therefore generate more tax dollars for our crack politicians in Sacramento to hand out.

What the geniuses in our state house don’t understand is that you pay a price in the quality of life for those neighborhoods that surround these establishments now. How much more will this change effect that quality of life when the bars are open until 4 a.m.? Will the extra cost that will be shelled out for law enforcement at the local level really end up costing us tax payers even more?
In the words of Mr. Steve Aspel [of Redondo Beach], "Nothing good comes of being out later then 12 midnight."

If you want to keep the bar hours in control of our local officials, I urge you to contact state Sen. Ted Lieu and tell him you oppose CA Senate Bill 635. The Police Chiefs Association is opposed to this bill.
