MCHS Class of 2010 Graduates
Family and friends cheer on graduating seniors as principal Julie Ruisinger gives her last commencement speech at Mira Costa.
Mira Costa High School's unexpectedly colorful graduation included pomp and circumstance as school principal Julie Ruisinger gave her last commencement speech. The easy-going administrator retires at the end of this school year and wished the graduating seniors success as she and they depart the school.
"This moment is pretty surreal," graduating senior Michael Beals of Manhattan Beach said after the commencement ceremony.
The gravity of completing high school is "kind of sinking in right now, a mix of emotions," he said.

"Going to college," said Jeffrey, and "traveling the country to rock climb" are on the top of her post-graduation activities list.

"Meeting new people and going somewhere new" were Hermosa Beach resident Felicia Unangst's most-anticipated activities now that high school has ended.
Mira Costa High School staff member Lisa Claypoole reflected on the reactions of the graduating class.
"Everyone wants the school year to end, but nobody wants to say goodbye," Claypoole observed. "They are 'super' young men and women who have done great things and are going great places."
