Mira Costa Student Awarded $2,000 Scholarship From Chamber

The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce John Workman Memorial Scholarship​ is awarded annually to a deserving student.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – A Mira Costa High School student is the recipient of the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce John Workman Memorial Scholarship this year, according to the Chamber's press release. The scholarship award recipient will be recognized at the Senior Recognition Program on June 11 at 7 p.m. in the Mira Costa Auditorium and at the Hermosa Beach City Council Meeting July 10 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

Delilah Gunn, a graduating senior from Mira Costa, will receive a $2,000 scholarship for her 4.0 unweighted GPA. Gunn has been honored by the California Scholarship Federation and National Honor Society; she also received the President’s Service Award and Charlaine Deatherage Award, the press release said.

Throughout high school experience, she has been Chair of Model United Nations and participated in JV Girls Golf. She created the Help Group Club and contributing to Mustangs 4 Change, Action Against Hunger Club and the Lovejoy Foundation NHS Committee within the community.

She will attend the University of Southern California with a double-major in International Relations and
Spanish, according to the press release.

“At the University of Southern California, I plan to join clubs and programs such as Troy Camp and Model
United Nations to take full advantage of my academic and volunteer opportunities. I then plan to go to
graduate school for law and study human rights to become an international human rights lawyer,” Gunn
said.

The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce John Workman Memorial Scholarship was established by
the Chamber in January 2012 to honor the memory of John Workman, who served as Treasurer for the
City of Hermosa Beach for 18 years and was an active member of the Hermosa Beach Chamber of
Commerce Board of Directors and Rotary Club before his passing in November 2011, according to the press release.
