New Residential Parking Permit Design Revealed
Local Matt Brandseth shot this photo of the statue of surfer Tim Kelly that's at the foot of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
HERMOSA BEACH, CA – The winner of the 9th annual Residential Parking Permit Design Contest is Hermosa Beach resident Matt Brandseth, it was announced Tuesday night. Brandseth, who works in Hollywood post production, created a warm image of the statue of legendary lifeguard and surfer Tim Kelly that is located at the foot of the Hermosa Beach Pier, the press release said.
Brandseth had been living in Hermosa Beach for about a month when he noticed at a certain point during sunset that the sun appeared to be in the statue’s hand. He shot this photo in September with his camera and then used Photoshop to create the winning design, the City of Hermosa Beach press release said.
City staff unveiled the design at the City Council meeting Tuesday night. As the winner of the annual contest, Brandseth will receive $40 and the honor of seeing his vivid orange and yellow design on parking permits throughout 2019.
