Paddlers Race Pier-to-Pier
Hennessey's kickstarts its 2011 paddleboard competition series with a race from Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach Pier and back.
Hennessey's 16th installment of its annual paddleboard competitions began Friday with the Return to the Pier Race. Pros and amateurs battled waves before facing the 3.5-mile stretch from Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach Pier and back.
"The water was a little windy, a little bumpy, but I think all the competitors had a real good time," Tim Ritter, the race chairman, told Patch.
Awards and a raffle took place at after the race.
