Residents Revel in Beach Tennis Victory

Several team titles are handed out to players from the weekend tournament, which included a new MC and some new athletes.

Beach Tennis continues to gain popularity around town after another successful West Coast Beach Tennis tournament resulted in several wins for local teams over the weekend.

This third tournament of the season hosted 26 teams competing on both Saturday and Sunday. Results of the matchups were released Monday.

"It went really well," said West Coast Beach Tennis's Lucy Street, the co-director of this year's tournament. "We added more music and an MC for this event, so it created a really great atmosphere. The tournament was lively and there was a lot of great tennis played."

In the men's division, Hermosa Beach residents Scott Carpenter and Tom Judd won the championship with their win against Yan Lavrosky of San Diego and John Mchugh of Hermosa Beach.

Men and women's mixed doubles kicked off Sunday, consisting of all skill levels fighting for a victory.

Eight teams competed, including Hermosan Donny Young and rookie Katrina Ho (who will be a freshman at Peninsula High this year in Palos Verdes). The duo defeated Renee Silk of Hermosa Beach and Scott Carpenter to capture the mixed double's crown.

West Coast Beach Tennis will hold a tournament the last weekend of August before finishing up the summer season with a mid-September event. Both tournaments will be in Hermosa Beach.
