RUHS Senior Breakfast Marks Last Day Before Graduation

The morning is filled with laughter, tears and applause.

A mass of students in red and white gowns surrounded the doors to the Big Gym at Redondo Union High June 23 as the eager members of the class of 2010 awaited the Senior Breakfast, the last official event before graduation.

The morning had started off with a chaotic panoramic picture of the senior class, for which a dress code was strictly enforced. Guys had to wear a tie and dress shirt. No exceptions. Girls had to wear a light-colored dress, and heels could not be a distracting color. Those who failed to adhere to the dress code were not allowed to be in the picture.

After a sequence of shots were taken, the horde of seniors filed into the auditorium for a slideshow compiled by yearbook editor Daniel Fallon and Associated Student Body Vice President Samantha Chua.

Production of the slideshow did not come easily.

"The senior historian is the one in charge of the senior slideshow, but because she was no longer in ASB, I took up the job to do the slideshow," Chua said. "It took me a while to make the slideshow because I had to get pictures from students, and that process took the longest, approximately three months."

The hard work paid off. Students who had submitted photos shouted and applauded when they appeared on the screen. Several pictures received standing ovations for  the laughter they triggered.

"I was very relieved and happy when it came to a closing. For me it meant the end of senior year, for others it was a moment to recollect the memories and times at RUHS," Chua said.

After the slideshow, a few students got tearful while most rushed to line up at the Big Gym door for breakfast. The bagels, fruit, scrambled eggs and potatoes were catered and served by Café N' Stuff.

The ASB had begun planning the event at the beginning of May, and President Robyn Watkins was put in charge of managing it.

"There were a lot of complications with the caterer," Watkins said. "ASB had to find a caterer that would also serve the food so that the parents did not have to do it."

Event organizers worked diligently to coordinate all the elements. "We had to get the tables, make sure that everything was OK as far as the food, make sure the food came on time and just make it memorable for the seniors," Watkins said.

The experience was challenging for the ASB cabinet members, but they pulled through with a successful senior breakfast for the class of 2010.
