South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide January 2, 2020

Check out South Bay By Jackie Weekend Guide for everything that is happening in the South Bay of Los Angeles

It’s another holiday season in the books and a brand-new decade to look forward to – HELLO 2020! I’m an optimist, glass half full, Pollyanna kind of gal, so I’m eagerly anticipating what this shiny, new year will bring. It’s going to be a relatively quiet weekend, which we can all use after the last few weeks, right? A chance to regroup, look forward and plan ahead. I have a ridiculous list of things I’d like to accomplish this year (some left over from last year) but the New Year always puts me in a ‘get it done’ frame of mind. Even with a never-ending to-do list, I’ll certainly make time to take advantage of all the fabulous things to do and places to go the South Bay has to offer. You should, too!
Riviera Village presents First Friday on Friday, January 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. This free, monthly event is the place to be every first Friday! Head to the Village and enjoy live music, food samplings, gallery viewing, promotional offers and more while you dine and shop. Riviera Village merchants and art galleries stay open until 8 p.m. The energy will be fueled by live music at various locations from 6 to 8 p.m. If you plan on having dinner at one of the many fine dining establishments, reservations are highly recommended. The Village has plenty of metered parking on every street, along with a large metered parking lot in the triangle bordered by South Elena Avenue, Via El Prado and Avenida del Norte, and additional parking off South Catalina Avenue and Vista Del Mar. The parking fees are $1.50 per hour from 9am to 9pm and many meters conveniently accept credit cards for payment. For additional information, visit the website at http://rivieravillage.net/.

The Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance presents Peninsula Cars & Coffee every first Saturday (January 4) of each month from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Promenade on the Peninsula parking structure top deck. Attention car hobbyists and enthusiasts! Bring you hot rod, custom, muscle car, sports car, antique, classic or exotic or other special interest car or truck…. or just yourself! It’s the perfect opportunity to meet other South Bay gear heads! This event is FREE to attend for both the public and those displaying a vehicle. For additional information, visit the website at https://www.pvconcours.org/peninsula-cars-and-coffee. Promenade on the Peninsula is located at 550 Deep Valley Drive, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274. Entrance to the top deck of the parking structure is located on Indian Peak Road.
Start the New Year off right by attending the BCHD Center for Health and Fitness Open House on Saturday, January 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Did you know you are three times more likely to succeed when you work out with a partner? Invite a friend to the Open House and start the New Year off with health and fitness! Enjoy FREE classes, tours, demos and more! No need to pre-register. Space is limited for classes and they will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up for FREE classes at the front desk upon your arrival at the Open House. For additional information and to view the class schedule, visit the website at http://www.beachcitiesgym.org or call 310-374-3426 ext. 147. BCHD Center for Health and Fitness is located at 514 North Prospect Avenue, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
Keep the Esplanade Beautiful presents the monthly Esplanade Sweep on January 4 from 9 to 10 a.m. The Esplanade, located on the west side of the street from Knob Hill to Miramar Park, is the crown jewel of Redondo Beach. Each of us that walks, runs, rides, or just sits along the Esplanade enjoying the view have a vested interest and responsibility to help maintain it. While we enjoy the Esplanade in different ways, perhaps with our friends and families, our dogs and bike riding clubs, some debris and wear and tear is inevitable, but it’s not just the city’s responsibility to clean up after us – we are all responsible for our environment. The Keep the Esplanade Beautiful committee is reaching out to the community and asking you to come out every first Saturday for an hour, and join fellow residents in a team effort to “Help Keep the Esplanade Beautiful”. The committee will provide supplies, direction and hopefully some laughs, as residents work together as role models for others that also use the Esplanade. Volunteers will meet on the Esplanade and Avenue I at 9 a.m. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Sue at sbbodytender@yahoo.com. For details, visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/KeeptheEsplanadeBeautiful
