The South Bay hosts an astounding variety of special events and activities year round! The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area. With the exception of the Hermosa Concerts on the Beach, which are scheduled for August, all the local Summer Concert Series have begun. These FREE events take place at various venues throughout the South Bay and are well-attended by both locals and visitors, so it’s always a good idea to arrive extra early to nab prime seating. Eat, drink, and Run with the Bulls on the Redondo Beach Pier! Every year, the week-long festival of San Fermín takes place in Pamplona, Spain. If you can’t make it over there in person, A Basq Kitchen is bringing this heart-pounding event to you in their restaurant! On the evenings of Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11 from 10 p.m. to midnight, A Basq Kitchen invites you to join them in viewing this event as it airs live from Pamplona beginning at 11 p.m. Guests will enjoy the event special of $22 for 2 drinks and 3 San Fermín tapas. First drink is on the house for attendees who come dressed up in traditional running attire: white shirt, white pants, and a red handkerchief! This summer, Ruby’s Diner is sponsoring a brand new community tradition, Movies at the Lagoon. On select Friday nights during July and August, Seaside Lagoon will play host for this new summer movie series. The films will begin at 8:15 p.m. and attendees should bring beach chairs and blankets. Food for purchase will be available from the Ruby’s Diner takeout window. The movies are free of charge and open to the public. This Friday, July 10, they’ll be screening one of the most popular movies of all time, Grease. The South Bay Greek Festival, an annual tradition since 1964, kicks off on Friday, July 10 and runs through Sunday, July 12. All things Greek will be featured at this popular South Bay event: music, dancing, games for the kids and food….lots and lots of fabulous food. Proudly sponsored by St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, admission donations are only $2 for adults, $1 for seniors and free for kids under 12 years old, or you can visit the website at http://sbgreekfestival.com/ and receive a FREE admission coupon! Join Host Town Manhattan Beach at Kinecta’s 75th Anniversary Chili Cookoff on Saturday July 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Taste, judge and indulge in some smoking hot chili and let the kids enjoy the games. The Lunada Bay Homeowners Association presents the Summer Concert Series in Lunada Bay Park on select Sundays in July and August. On Sunday, July 12, U2 tribute band, Hollywood U2 will perform. The concert gets underway at 5 p.m. Arrive early and bring a picnic dinner, then sit back and enjoy a wonderful evening in the park with family and friends. This season, Shakespeare by the Sea presents two brand new productions staged at venues throughout the South Bay. Performances of As You Like It and The Tempest will take place during July and August. Directed by Patrick Vest, As You Like It is a tale of a love so grand all the rules are broken. Directed by Stephanie Coltrin, The Tempest is an island fantasy – passionate, visceral, fierce and magical. The first performance of As You Like It is scheduled for Sunday, July 12 at 7 p.m. at Fred Hesse Jr. Community Park located at 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard in Rancho Palos Verdes. Shakespeare by the Sea is a non-profit organization whose mission is to ignite imagination, promote literacy and offer a venue for technical and performing artists to exercise their passion. The City of El Segundo Recreation & Parks Department is proud to present the 2015 Summer Concerts in the Park Series sponsored by Chevron. These free concerts take place on select Sunday evenings at Library Park located at the 600 block of Main Street in beautiful downtown El Segundo. Activities begin at 4 p.m. with the music starting at 4:30 and running until 6 p.m. Gourmet food trucks will be on site and kids can stop by the gazebo for free face painting and arts & crafts provided by Camp Cowabungo Day Camp. On Sunday, July 12, Neon Nation will be playing the big hits of the 80s. No glass containers are permitted and please leave the pets at home! Restaurant Week is back and it’s time to dineLA! dineLA Restaurant Week is a bi-annual dining event established to introduce diners to the extensive assortment of restaurants in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County. Local foodies and visitors to the area will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of specially priced prix fixe menus from some of LA’s best restaurants during this this period. It should come as no surprise that a variety of restaurants throughout the South Bay will be participating in this culinary event. Some of the restaurants will feature lunch, some will offer dinner and some will present both so be sure to check the website at http://discoverlosangeles.com/restaurantweekv2/. dineLA Summer Restaurant Week takes place over 12 consecutive days and runs from July 13 through July 26. Due to the popularity of this event, advance reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-ins are welcome but there is no guarantee they can be accommodated.
