South Bay Man Finds Rat Swimming In Toilet: Video
New York has "Pizza Rat," but Hermosa Beach has a toilet rat. Should we name him Ratatoilet, or Loo?
HERMOSA BEACH, CA – To this Hermosa Beach man's surprise, his early morning bathroom break turned into a meet-and-greet with a swimming rat in his toilet – one of the most vulnerable spots in the house.
Allen Carrier and his partner, Dr. William Wickwire, wanted to get rid of the rodest fast, but one flush didn't do the trick, ABC7 reported.
"The second time when we opened the lid he had flipped onto his back and looked like he was on vacation in Hawaii," Wickwire told the news station.

After adding extra water to the bowl with a bucket, they were able to bid adieu to their new friend.
"So, what do you do when a live rat comes up your toilet and you live in a multi million dollar house? I think you do the same thing you do anywhere — which is to fill a bucket and try like crazy to get the thing to go back where he came from," Wickwire wrote on Facebook.

Hermosa Beach City Manager Suja Lowenthal said there haven't been any reports of similar problems. The city told ABC7 that homeowners should "install a check valve on their lateral sewer lines and ensure abandoned sewer lateral lines from the property are properly capped. These valves are required and should already be in for all newer construction if built according to building codes."
