Gallery H of Phantom Galleries LA in Hawthorne has posted a ‎Dia De Los Muertos Open Call for Art Exhibition to take place from October 24 through November 28. All submissions must be received by Thursday, August 27 by 5 p.m. PST. There is a maximum of four submissions from each artist. All submissions must be the artist’s original work. Custom Design & Construction hosts another of the popular Visiting Chef Series on Thursday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. featuring “Chopped Champion” and Executive Chef of Simple Gourmet, Chef Taji Marie. Inspired by Southern California living and vibrant farmers’ markets, Chef Taji is known for serving up nutritionally dense ingredients in dishes that highlight the rich flavors of the Mediterranean and Latin America. During this cooking demonstration event attendees will learn how to cook a delicious summer dinner. The evening’s menu includes:

Community Making Workshops is hosting a Paper Flower Make + Mingle tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. hosted by Open House Modern Beach Design and Ayayay Pop-Up Boutique. The workshop is designed for all skill levels and includes all materials and supplies. Refreshments will be served. The cost is $20 and space is limited. Cowboy Boot Camp® presents Dave Stamey in Concert on August 28 from 4 to 10 p.m. at the South Coast Botanic Garden. Dave Stamey, a seven time-Western Music Association’s “Entertainer of the Year”, has been called one of the “greatest song writers” the cowboy music genre has ever produced. Ruby’s Diner sponsors Movies at the Lagoon on Friday, August 28 and this week they’ll be screening Back to the Future. The movie will begin at 8:15 p.m. and attendees should bring beach chairs and blankets. Food for purchase will be available from the Ruby’s Diner takeout window. Gallery H of Phantom Galleries LA in Hawthorne is proud to present the Peggy Sivert Zask Solo Show –TRANSFORMATIONS! The Opening Reception will take place on Saturday, August 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. with a special Art Performance by the artist at 7 p.m. In addition, there will be an Artist Talk on Sunday, September 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will be on view August 29 through September 26. Regardless of the medium Peggy Sivert Zask uses, from sculpture to oil painting, the artist is passionate and consistent with her concern for social justice and the environment. Zask has in recent years focused on ceramics as a medium. The show is curated by Gloria Plascencia. The Torrance Community Services Department sponsors the popular Movies in the Park program again this summer. The final movie in the series is Happy Feet, which will be shown on Saturday, August 29 at El Retiro Park. The movie will begin at dusk, approximately 8 p.m. Prior to the start of the movie, a craft activity will be available for the children. The program is open to the public and is free of charge. Richstone Family Center hosts the second annual Endless Summer Beach Bash on Saturday, August 29. The event takes place on a stretch of private beach in Redondo from 5:30 to 9 p.m. It will be a fun filled evening of dancing and reminiscing with a Beach Boy tribute set by Night Owl Productions. Guests will enjoy an evening filled with flavorsome dishes from several area restaurants including DOMA Kitchen, The Standing Room, Zazou, Bluewater Grill, Stacked and others. Guest will stay refreshed under the sun with cocktails from Ole Smoky Moonshine along with refreshing, ice-cold beer from Land Shark Brewery. All proceeds of ticket sales will continue to fund free mentoring programs against domestic violence for children who escaped abused homes. Street Food Cinema and the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce present Manhattan Movie Nights on Saturday, August 29 at the Manhattan Beach Marriot Golf Course. The event features live music by The Singer and The Songwriter, food from local restaurants and a movie screening of Beetlejuice. Doors open at 5:30, the music begins at 6:30 and the movie starts at 8:30. Limited tickets will be available at the door (cash only) starting at 6 p.m. Please note: door may be held at any time to allow for advance ticket holders to enter.
