El Segundo Museum of Art presents the opening of Experience #20: PLAN on Sunday, February 21. The art experience will run through May 22, 2016. PLAN opens at ESMoA with curatorial remarks from Joes Segal at 2 p.m. Combining artworks and artifacts from East and West, PLAN reveals how artists and administrators deal with the contingencies of life in art and politics. What is the point of making plans if the future is uncertain? By what process do we lay out a day’s, a month’s, or a year’s agenda even while knowing that mere coincidence may blow it apart like dandelion seeds in the breeze? And once we actually make a plan, do we stick with it, whatever the consequences, or do we improvise, come what may? ESMoA is musing on all of the above and more with PLAN, curated by Joes Segal, chief curator of The Wende Museum of Culver City and Bernhard Zünkeler, chief curator of ESMoA. ESMoA’s artist-in-residence, sculptor and performance artist Taka Kagitomi, will perform spontaneously with the original entrance lettering to the London headquarters of now-defunct Lehman Brothers. The two feet high letters have all the makings of eternity, but history shows that eternity proves all future plans wrong. As always, admission is FREE! For additional information, visit the website athttp://esmoa.org/. El Segundo Museum of Art is located at 208 Main Street in El Segundo.

With beautiful cinematography and some remarkable individuals, the passion is contagious. Twelve short films will be screened over two hours. Tickets are $10 on-line and $15 at the door. Artist Gary Sweeney is selling his childhood home in Manhattan Beach – but before he hands over the keys, it will spend its final days as an art exhibit entitled, A Manhattan Beach Memoir: 1945 – 2015. Sweeney has mounted large prints of his family photos all over the exterior of the structure and will be giving guided tours every Wednesday in February from 4 to 7 p.m. The photographs were taken by his father, Mike Sweeney, an amateur photographer, and document the 70 years the family lived under that roof. Assuming who ever bought the house would tear it down, Gary took the opportunity to remind people what Manhattan Beach used to be like with this utterly unique tribute. If you can’t attend one of the guided tours, you can always walk, or drive by, and view this enchanting, ephemeral farewell. For additional information, visit the website at http://garysweeneyart.com/. The Sweeney home is located at 320 35th Street in Manhattan Beach.
