The City of Manhattan Beach hosts the Manhattan Beach Open Beach Volleyball Tournament presented by the AVP, the City of Manhattan Beach and International Management Group. The largest volleyball tournament on the tour, the event will take placeThursday, July 14 through Sunday, July 17. The Manhattan Beach Open is the largest qualifier in which amateurs are able to ‘place’ into the event through pre-qualifying rounds. The El Segundo and Manhattan Beach Chambers of Commerce present the annual Mixer in the Park tonight, Thursday, July 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, desserts and door prizes while mixing and mingling. The annual Relay for Life will take place at Lincoln Elementary School on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Relay for Life teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park, or fairground. Events are up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. In addition to the 24 hour relay, the event features a silent auction, exhibitors, bingo, Zumba, yoga, food, music and more. It’s a terrific event for the entire community! South Bay Children’s Health Center presents the third annualChampions for Children 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 16 at the South Coast Botanic Garden. The event will raise money and build awareness of the need for quality mental and oral health services for underserved children, teens and young adults throughout the South Bay and surrounding areas and will attract local dental and mental health professionals, community partners, families and local corporations. Expected attendance is 700. Participants can run or walk the beautiful course as an individual or as part of a team. The day will be filled with family activities for children of all ages, vendor booths, a children’s festival and a wonderful, healthy team spirit. The Western Museum of Flight will host a Make N Take Model Session on Saturday, July 16 from noon to 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to stop by the WMoF and take part in this fun, family activity. Kinecta celebrates community service in the South Bay with the annual Community Celebration & Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This FREE public event features food, prizes and family fun!
