The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts the annualEconomic Forum 2015 this morning, November 5 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at Verandas Beach House. Breakfast will be available at7:30 with the program commencing at 8 a.m. This is an exciting time for the economy as communities are evolving, businesses are adapting, and new experiences are being created. Similar in format to last year’s Forum, there will be two different panels sharing their vision, expertise, and challenges. The monthly 310YP First Thursday Happy Hour Mixer will take place at Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach tonight, Thursday, November 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. The event is free of charge but make sure to register in advance to avoid the long lines. There will be plenty of networking, live music and happy hour specials. A portion of all food and drinks sales will go towards 310YP local charities, including Gals Starting Over, a charity dedicated to helping women overcome obstacles and hardships. Representatives from Gals Starting Over will be in attendance to provide more info about their charity. They will be collecting a suggested $5 donation at the door for this charity and others in the (310) area that 310YP supports. The Manhattan Beach Chamber presents the monthly Business Connection Luncheon at Hennessey’s Tavern on Friday, November 6 from noon to 1:30 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to mix and mingle with like-minded business leaders. For those who have never attended, here is what to expect:

G.I. Joe Bootcamp presents the annual Fall Pier 2 Pier Run/Walk on Saturday, November 7. The event gets underway at7 a.m. at the Hermosa Beach Pier. This is a four mile course run in the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier and back. Pre-registered participants will receive t-shirts and goodie bags while the first and second place winners, male and female, will receive a Village Runner gift certificate. Any participant that breaks the record for the fastest course time will receive $100 cash! Come out and support Joe Charles in his efforts to rehabilitate from his stroke! Pre-registration is $40; day of event, $45. There are also five different team/family registration options for up to fifteen members. El Segundo Museum of Art hosts Family Day with Guest Artist Sara Chao on Sunday, November 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet up with family and friends for a day of fun! Explore Experience 19: TOUCH, put on your Art Detective cap and search for clues in a hands-on Scavenger Hunt. Then make art inspired by work in TOUCH. Art making materials will be available for all ages and ability levels. Take the essential artist practice of keeping a sketchbook beyond the usual two dimensions. In a workshop facilitated by guest artist Sara Chao, learn how to make mini transparent memory journals and laminated memento sheets while collaborating on an archaeological glycerin sculpture inspired by Jedediah Caesar’s “Gleaner Stones.” There will be lots of fun found materials provided, but you are invited to bring your own scrap paper items or small objects to use in this workshop. Second Sundays at Two concert series presents Duo Turgeon featuring prize-winning Canadian pianists Anne Louise-Turgeon and Edward Turgeon this afternoon at 2 p.m. Critically-acclaimed Canadian pianists Anne Louise Turgeon and Edward Turgeon have given hundreds of performances, including a European debut at the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, and a New York debut at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. They were featured in the PBS documentary Two Pianos, One Passion and have been heard in numerous broadcasts on classical music stations throughout the world. The Turgeon’s won First Prize in the Sixth International Schubert Competition for Piano Duos (Czech Republic, 1995) and First Prize in the prestigious Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition (Miami, 1997), among numerous other prizes and awards. Redondo Beach will observe Veterans Day 2015 at the Veterans Memorial in beautiful Veterans Park at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11. The solemn observance will include reflection and remembrance, music and commentary, and honors all those members of the military who served their country. Keynote speaker is local Redondo resident, Rear Admiral Sandra E. Adams, USNR, Deputy Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command. Local elected officials and other military dignitaries will also participate. The Redondo High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC and Boy Scouts will be in attendance and the Redondo High Wind Ensemble will perform. The service will be followed by a BBQ picnic sponsored by the Redondo Elks. The BBQ is free for all veterans and members of the military. A $5 donation is requested from all others.
