The South Bay pays homage to all things lobster at the 20 Annual Redondo Beach Lobster Festival beginning Friday, September 25 and running through Sunday, September 27. It’s all lobster, all the time, at this classic South Bay event! There are several lobster meal packages available for your dining pleasure including the popular Lobster Feast and you don’t want to miss the Lobster Bistro. Lobster may reign supreme at this classic South Bay event but there are plenty of other reasons to attend. The music line-up features live bands and DJ’s playing throughout the weekend as well as stand up paddle board lessons, kids area, face painting and balloon art. Friday night kicks off with Doors guitarist, Robby Krieger and special guests. The Saturday line-up includes Bow Wow Wow, The Untouchables, Flashback Heart Attack and more! Sunday will close out with one of the South Bay’s favorite local bands, Feed the Kitty, and Terri Nunn and Berlin! Free bike parking will be available courtesy of the Beach Cities Cycling Club and Hermosa Cyclery. For additional information and ticket purchase, visit the website at http://www.lobsterfestival.com/. The Rotary Club of South Bay presents the sixth annual Charity Rat Ride on Saturday, September 26. This is a bike tour, not a bike race. It’s strictly for fun and it’s a rare opportunity to explore the South Bay from a two wheeled perspective. The start and finish line is located at the Seaside Lagoon because the RAT Beach Bike Tour is partnering with the Redondo Beach Lobster Festival! All riders will be admitted to the Lobster Festival for lunch and a huge party at the end of the ride. The event features non-stop music, mechanical bull riding, paddleboard lessons, kids area, cocktails, food, sun, sand and surf! There are three different rides for all levels – the Metric Century (62 miles), the Metric Half Century (31 miles) and the Metric Quarter Century (15.5 miles). This year’s event promises to be larger than ever with more diverse routes through the South Bay. All three rides take advantage of the splendid coastal location incorporating the bike paths along the Strand and Esplanade. Entry fees go to several charities supported by the South Bay Rotary Club including the Scott Newman Center and the Pediatric Therapy Network. The entry fee includes a t-shirt, hat, refreshments, roving bike support, lunch and entry to the Lobster Festival. The event will proceed rain or shine and helmets are required. AND IF THAT’S NOT ENOUGH……. mark your calendar for Sunday, September 27 at 6:55 p.m. PDT to see the Super Moon Lunar Eclipse!

According to the Sierra Club website:

“A “perigee moon” occurs when the moon is closest to Earth in its month-long orbit. On September 27 at 6:55 p.m. PDT and 9:55 p.m. EDT, the moon is at perigee less than an hour before the apex of the Full Harvest Moon (10:50 p.m. EDT). This is the closest coincidence of perigee moon and full moon for the year. In recent years when perigee and a full moon occur on the same date, it’s been dubbed a Super Moon by many news sources. The Full Harvest Perigee Moon has more in store for observers than just being big and bright. A total lunar eclipse will begin on September 27 as well. For those in western states like California and Washington, where wildfires have been rampant, the soot in the air may change the appearance of the lunar eclipse, making it darker or possibly more violet, depending on the amount and type of aerosols and how they filter the view.”
