Social media is awash this week with photos of the kids’ first day of school (how cute are they?!), moving day at the dorms, and parents valiantly trying to keep their emotions in check (Some did better than others. You know who you are.) September is here, folks….. vacations are over, the kids are back in school and schedules rule the roost. It’s exhausting just thinking about it……BUT! We lucky Americans have the three-day Labor Day Weekend to look forward to with several great events to attend including Fiesta Hermosa. We’re not letting go of summer that easily…..

The Redondo Beach Pier Association presents the FINAL weekend of the Summer of Music Concert Series taking place tonight, Thursday, September 3 and Saturday, September 5. The Saturday show features two bands beginning at 4 p.m. These concerts are free to the public, so gather your family, friends and neighbors and enjoy one final summer night of music over the water. The Redondo Beach Pier is located at 100 Fisherman’s Wharf in Redondo Beach.
Peninsula Committee Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is proud to present the 58 Annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show. The three day event takes place Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6 at Ernie Howlett Park in Rolling Hills Estates. General admission is free on Friday and $5 per person on Saturday and Sunday. Children under 12 get in for free. Reserved seating is available at ringside tables (table of 10 for all three days is $450 or one day for $200) Individual seats at tables are $25 each. L.A. Conservation Corp’s SEA Lab facility is hosting a Back to School Bash on Saturday, September 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Guests will enjoy a variety of marine-centric activities while getting in one last learning adventure before school starts. Beginning at 10 a.m., guests are invited to take a self-guided touch tank tour. Everyone will enjoy The Nick & Jen Show, a fun and interactive kid’s musical show beginning at 11 a.m. Guests can also take part in the daily fish feeding at 12 noon for an additional fee. Tile painting will be available all day and for $25 per tile, guests can add a piece of artwork to the tide pool amphitheater. Admission is $5 per person (children 3 and under are free) or families can become SEA Lab members for $100 per year and receive discounts and free admission to future events. Fiesta Hermosa takes place Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in Hermosa Beach. With over 270 exhibitors, Fiesta Hermosa is the largest arts & crafts fair in Southern California. Enjoy balmy sea breezes as you stroll through downtown admiring the fine sculptures, paintings, photographs, clothing and jewelry on display. An outstanding line-up of bands and musicians will be performing on two separate stages. The Food Court offers several types of ethnic cuisine, classic barbeque and the ever-popular Hermosa Beach Lifeguard’s Famous Fish Tacos. If you have two wheels, getting to Fiesta Hermosa is a breeze with the bike valet program. Hermosa Cyclery will valet your bike for free in a guarded lot on the sand just south of the Pier. BALEEN Kitchen hosts Sunday Funday Marina Concert & Cookout on Sunday, September 6 for the last time this season! Guests are invited to stop by the BALEEN Kitchen fire pits and outdoor lounge/dining area overlooking the Redondo Marina from 3 to 6 p.m. The event will feature live music, gourmet burger bar, beer garden and more! The build-your-own-burger bar will offer a choice of beef patty, chicken breast or Portobello mushroom grilled to perfection which guests can then customize with an array of garnishes. The burgers are $7 each; domestic beers are $3; well drinks and house wine are $4; and margaritas and Absolution beers are $5. Sounds like a fun and inexpensive way to spend a summer Sunday in the South Bay! The City of Manhattan Beach presents the FINAL Concert in the Park on Sunday, September 6. The concert is held at Polliwog Park and takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. This weekend features Britain’s Finest, one of the most authentic Beatles tribute band to emerge in the last 20 years. These performances are free to the public. There are no dogs, barbecues or wheeled vehicles allowed at any time in the concert area. Umbrellas and pop-up tents may be set up prior to the show but must be taken down once it starts. Polliwog Park is located at 1601 Manhattan Beach Boulevard in Manhattan Beach. The monthly Social Canine Hike will take place this Sunday, September 6. They’ll be hiking at the Point Vicente Lighthouse, a beautiful Rancho Palos Verdes trail with great ocean views. This is a drop-in activity – no registration is required – so just show up and join in. The Lighthouse is located at 31550 Palos Verdes Drive West in Rancho Palos Verdes. It’s easy to get there with plenty of free parking. The group will meet in the parking lot. They ask that you be on time – they usually can’t wait more than 5 minutes because the dogs get restless. It’s Back to School time! Do you know that El Segundo Museum of Art offers free Arts Programs & Field Trips for teachers and school classes of all ages?
