"Teens & Technology" Presentation Will Empower Parents

The September 13 presentation will give parents tools to talk openly with teens about the effects of social media.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – A presentation called "Teens and Technology: What Every Parent Needs to Know" will be on September 13th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hermosa Beach City School District. The event is free and open to anyone who's interested in learning more about teenagers and social media. It will include an overview of what the most popular apps are, how teens are using them, and it will provide parents with tools that they can use to talk openly with their teens about the effects of social media.

The beginning of the school year and other similar transitions lead to heavy phone use, said Marina Braff, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern. While most parents understand that a teenager's world is about connection and having a group, Braff said, parents of this generation have never had to raise a child that has so much access to technology and social media.

"Because of that, many parents feel lost and scared over what they are seeing and hearing about in the news," she said in a statement. "I'm giving this presentation to not only provide them with information but to also provide parents with an opportunity to share what is going on in their world and be supported by other parents in the community."
