West Basin's Hands-On Workshop and Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Ocean Friendly Garden in Gardena

City of Gardena Councilmember Dan Medina, West Basin Director Donald L. Dear, and community partners will kick off the planting of a new Ocean Friendly Garden (OFG) with a groundbreaking ceremony at Rowley Park in Gardena on Thursday, February 26 at 10 a.m. The day’s conservation efforts will begin at 9 a.m. with a free hands-on workshop inside the senior center for local community members to learn about sustainable gardening techniques to build and create Ocean Friendly Gardens. Following the groundbreaking, free gardening gloves will be provided to the hands-on workshop participants, community members and local leaders to begin installing plants into the garden. The new garden will feature drought-tolerant plants that thrive in dry climates and will save up to 80 percent of the water previously required for landscaping.
