What: Torrance Memorial Medical Center Woman to Woman Image Enhancement Program – Beautifying Self Image through Support
With so much to think about when diagnosed with cancer or another serious illness, women are often not prepared for the self-image concerns that may accompany physical changes. The Torrance Memorial Luminaries, a volunteer group founded by five local women, developed the Woman to Woman Program. The Luminaries support the hospital and its programs through volunteer hours and through fundraising. Working in conjunction with the Torrance Memorial Hunt Cancer Institute, this image-enhancement program helps women experiencing hair loss to due to illness or treatment by teaching techniques to enhance their appearance and feel attractive. Women are given free resource guides, instruction in the use of scarves and hats, are fitted for wig liners, and may order hair pieces. Woman to Woman services are free of charge to anyone in the community.
