5 Killed in Crash of Charter Bus out of East Los Angeles

The Tuesday morning crash occurred along Highway 99 in Central California, killing five and shutting down the highway.

LOS ANGELES, CA — At least five people have died and several were injured after a charter bus from East Los Angeles crashed into a pole in Central California early Tuesday morning, according to multiple local media reports.

The charter bus was traveling from Southern California to Sacramento. The driver, a 57- year-old Los Angeles man is in critical condition, according to multiple reports.

The crash happened on Highway 99 and the northbound lanes of the road remain closed Tuesday morning. According to The Merced Sun-Star, the bus was carrying around 30 people when it crashed around 3:30 a.m.

The charter bus was reportedly traveling from Mexico to Washington State.

According to the CHP incident log, traffic on the highway is being diverted off Frontage Road.
