Press Release: 7/26/2013 – ARC Hosts FoLAR and Grayce Liu and Assembly District 51.
At the August Alliance of River Communities meeting, the ARC hosted the Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) for a presentation on their Los Angeles River Rover Mobile Visitor Center. The LA River is a great destination for Angelenos and visitors alike, but there currently is not a single location where folks can gather to learn about the river and its ecosystems. With FoLAR’s LA River Rover Mobile they’ll be able to educate visitors at various gathering points along the river and at various locations throughout the city to raise awareness and appreciation for our beautiful natural resource.
Grayce Liu provided an update on the department’s activities and shared information on coordination with Nation Builder online campaign and possible online voting tools for the coming elections. Nothing has been finalized but the prospect to work with Nation Builder’s online platform is promising.

The ARC also heard from Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez’s office, and Councils for Councils volunteer NC mentoring program representative Jay Handel.
Lastly, after a round table updates from the NC representatives present, the ARC took action on requesting safety upgrades along the Los Angeles River Bike Path. As a long standing concern of Northeast Area Senior Lead Officers, the lack of “street signs” along the path make it difficult for patrons to notify police for help or report crime because they are not able to identify what streets they are near along the path. The ARC will be issuing an action statement calling for all Neighborhood Councils in the area to submit a letter requesting that the City Council and relevant departments take action on resolving this concern.
