Blog: The Puppy Chronicles—Mac Has allergies
Did you know—dogs can have allergies, too?
If you don't know Mac, he's now in his forever home with me after I found him hit by a car on Division Street. Every so often I post about how he's doing and what he's been up to. http://highlandpark-ca.patch.com/blog_posts/the-puppy-chronicles-help-ma...
Recently, Mac was diagnosed with hay fever and other allergies. I took him to our Vet, Blue Cross Pet Hospital in North Hollywood http://bluepet.com/ a few weekends ago. He had been wheezing up a storm, trouble catching his breath, runny eyes, and sneezing.
Before going to the vet, I looked up his symptoms online. There are various sites that discuss dog allergies. One of which is WebMD http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/allergies-dogs

I had no idea animals could have allergies like humans. Our Vet also said that if his allergies don’t get better with the medication he’s currently on, we can bring him in for an allergy test just like a human gets http://www.animal-allergy.com/ We’d then be able to pin point exactly what and how severe his allergies could be.
Fortunately, the allergy meds seem to be working. Tthankfully, for now we can forgo the allergy testing.

There is a ton of information on animal allergies. I found the ASPCA has a really great section on their site: http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/dog-care/dog-care-allergies.aspx
